Man, I love Hawaii. Something about the place, the vibe, the islands makes relaxation easy. I also ordering spam and eggs with a side of rice for breakfast at a restaurant. I didn’t think something that simple makes a difference, but it does. I suppose one never really knows how under the yoke of ethnocentrism one is until that yoke is removed. But, this isn’t the internalized racism blog, this is the PASSPO “Mousou no Hawaii” blog.
Summer is almost here. I can feel the sun heat up the city; it’s rays are growing stronger by the day. To help bring us back into the summer state of mind, here are more pictures of the Q-ki enjoying their last visit in Hawaii!
(a good number of these are from pound66 at tumblr. you can tell from the watermark. props to you, sir)
This is killing me. It’s a pretty cold December by Los Angeles standards (which means highs in the low 60’s and lows in the high 30’s). There is a slow trickle of Kyuuki Hawaii photobook images crawling into Tumblr. Man, I really want to go to Hawaii.
Either that, or I need PonPon at my front door …
“Sayu begins the show by recapping MM’s recent Hawaii fan club tour. She says they went there for 9 days 7 nights. She believes this is the longest MM has been in Hawaii. During their stay there, 3 days were dedicated for the actual fan club tour and then the rest of the time was for photoshoots. This time, there will be 3 Alo Hello photobooks coming out – a group Morning Musume one, a 9th gen only one, and a 10th gen only one. When Sayu and Reina first heard about this they were really annoyed that they don’t get a 6th gen only one. Sayu says both of them were quite jealous for a while.”

First, thank you to Hello! SayuNii for hooking up a link to this version. As I am writing this, I have yet to hear the version that was sung in Hawaii for the 2012 Fan Club Concert. I’d like to express my feelings about this song- GAHHHHHHH. More than anything, this is the one song that really made me a rabid fan. Have you heard the original? My God it’s gorgeous. The instrumental is lush and filled with traditional (sounding) instruments (I’m not a Japanese music theorist). The percussion track alone is worthy of listen- filled with shakers, Taiko (sounding) drums, toms, cymbals, chimes, and bells. Seriously, I could listen to the percussion work on this song alone. It’s a damn orchestra piece all by itself. I also love the bass guitar track- it’s melodic, deep, and adds to the song in ways that the best bass tracks often do. The instrumental is filled with layer after layer of counterpoint melody and emphasis that builds into a whirlwind of a chorus complete with harp swells and glockenspiels. Damn you , Tsunku.
I’ve finally heard audio from the Morning Musume fan club concert in Hawaii on 9/01/2012! I’ve been looking forward to hearing these rips for about 2 days now (MAN I wish I was in Hawaii). These concerts are different than their counterparts in Japan in that there are usually many solo songs and the girls tend to choose songs that are unexpected. Occasionally there are disasters. Sometimes there are lulz (Yossi and Miki’s version of Rainbow Pink OMG). In other words, anything can happen! I was totally into hearing how the members would sound with another year of experience. I will also provide you with my very biased opinions! You wanted my biased opinions, didn’t you? So I begin with ERIPON
Definitely an improvement. She also picked herself a song that plays to her strengths. It’s upbeat and catchy and doesn’t require much of range. Also, there aren’t too many notes that she needs to hold for very long. This song was originally done by the goddess Goto Maki; Eripon can’t possibly hope to compete with Gocchin vocally not that this was the point (here’s the original if you haven’t hear/seen it CLICK). I think that Eripon does a great job with this song! She really sounds like she is working the crowd and they are loving her performance. I can’t wait to see video 🙂
