It’s one of the universal truths of 244. Berryz Kobo is better when they are stupid. Remember “Monkey Dance“? Loved it. “Seishun Bus Guide” and “Ryussei Boy” are equally silly and just as loved. “Madayade” doesn’t make the list. Whoever had the idea to sex up the Berryz is misguided about their appeal. Look at them! They are a motley crew if I ever saw one! So, how does “Golden Chinatown” stack up?
Another week, another Hello! Station. If I seem to be writing these later and later each week, it’s because of my real life getting in the way of my wota life. Hopefully my schedule will clear up as we reach summertime!
The next host for Hello! Station is the newly minted subleader for Morning Musume- Iikubo Haruna. You know her, the one who looks a bit like a mantis, Continue reading
Another week of Nakanishi Kana! This edition is packed with performances, and like last week, Kanana keeps the action coming at a decent pace. These performances seem to all come from Hello! Project’s recent Premium Live at Hibiya.
Opening to Hibiya premium live. Not much to say.
5:05 things get rolling with the new Kenshuusei/Juice single. I didn’t expect Continue reading
I know I shouldn’t, but I feel a little bad that I didn’t get this out yesterday. I know the ten people reading this are probably super-bummed out that I’m late on the viewer’s guide and had to watch the whole episode. Cruelty, right?
Anyways, we get another week of Captain at the helm, so let’s enjoy, eh?
First we get some Berryz Koubou performing their new single “Golden Chinatown”. The wota are certainly up for this- screaming and waving their glowsticks like crazy. So, what the hell is up with those Mickey Mouse ears on Risako? Continue reading
Let’s face facts: if you don’t speak Japanese (I don’t) or don’t have much patience, you probably won’t sit through a show like “Hello! Station”. It would be nice if someone out there pointed out the interesting parts of the show. I always wonder why no one has done this before. I suppose it’s my turn to provide some usefulness.
Note, the links are to the same video from the official Hello! Project Station YouTube channel (you’re going to see Nakky’s face a lot). I just went ahead and forwarded the video to different highlights. Obviously, I can’t translate anything and my choices for highlights are highly subjective. I promise to make an effort in showing most (if not all) of the segments. Please, watch the parts in which you are interest, and don’t feel guilty about skipping whatever you don’t like.
LET’S DO THIS!
At last night’s Satoyama movement event, a new movement and some new units were announced. Firstly, the new movement is called the Satoumi movement. It will most likely have something to do with preserving the ocean, since my crackerjack Google skills tell me that “umi” means “sea”.
As for the new units, not much is known except for the names and the lineups. They all have names puzzled the English speaking wota-verse. Here’s a breakdown:
The view from the inside of a disco ball is pretty nice. I got lots of Berryz girls dancing around, pretending to DJ and generally mugging and pouting in front of me. There is some sort of Asian Celebration happening, clearly. After all, these girls are all Asian, I’m Asian, and this disco is located in Japan.
Asian Celebration is available for purchase at CD Japan
I’ve been spending the last few days mainly rewatching Macross since I hadn’t seen it in a long, long time. In-between episodes, I did manage to sneak in a few idol related videos, including the newly fan-subbed Morning Musume DVD Magazine Vol. 39 and the live videos in this post.
Since I seem to have took the time to expose all the warts in the microphone rips of Morning Musume’s “Help Me!!”, I thought now would be an appropriate time to highlight some recent-ish performances that affirms faith in good ol’ Hello! Project.
To start things, you can never go wrong with Buono!. They are the super group of H!P kids, and are not over-rated by any stretch.
Great song, great performance. The Airi, Miyabi, and Momoko are all extremely talented. They are one of the rare few idol acts that can perform with a live band instead of the usual backing tapes. Airi’s harmonies, which almost never happen in idol music, push them way over the edge. I could watch this for hours.
Really, I think that Tsunkuboy might be trying to get us all to say “Berryz, want!” thinking that it will make every review of this single favorable. Well, I have only listened to this song once and this seems to be a shot in the arm for a group that seemed to be stagnating for a while.
Let’s remember that Berryz have come fresh from their Thai cover song release “Cha Cha Sing”. While it’s doubtful that any Berryz song will light the world on fire, it seemed to me that the song was very easily dismissed by most fans. The girls in their traditional looking outfits didn’t make for good cover. What do the girls have in store for us here?
90 second version
The full Flash Mob Version PVs for the new Berryz single “Cha Cha SING” have been released. After talking up these versions, I’m actually a bit underwhelmed. The concept is great, and the girls certainly look Continue reading
